Development and Automation of a Photovoltaic-Powered Soil Moisture Sensor for Water Management

نویسندگان

چکیده

The objective of this study was to develop and calibrate a photovoltaic-powered soil moisture sensor (SMS) for irrigation management. Soil readings obtained from the were compared with gravimetric measurements. An automated SMS used in two trials: (i) okra crop (Abelmoschus esculentus) (ii) chili pepper (Capsicum frutescens). All sensors calibrated using an Arduino Mega board C++. data subjected descriptive statistical analysis. recorded by equipment correlated method. determination coefficient (R2), Pearson correlation (r), root mean square error (RMSE) adopted as criteria validation. results show that our achieved R2 value 0.70 r 0.84. Notably, there striking similarity observed between data, RMSE values 3.95 4.01, respectively. global model developed exhibited highly efficient outcomes (0.98) (0.99) values. applicability facilitates management accuracy real-time monitoring digital data. automation emerges precise alternative performing at right moment correct amount, thus avoiding water losses.

Retraction: A wireless soil moisture sensor powered by solar energy

In a variety of agricultural activities, such as irrigation scheduling and nutrient management, soil water content is regarded as an essential parameter. Either power supply or long-distance cable is hardly available within field scale. For the necessity of monitoring soil water dynamics at field scale, this study presents a wireless soil moisture sensor based on the impedance transform of the ...

Assessing Relation of Soil Hydrophobicity and Soil Water Content and Determining Threshold Moisture of Organic Soil Samples

Soil water content is the most effective factor associated with the hydrophobic and hydrophilic changes in a soil. Water repellency in soils, is not a permanent feature; it can be reached in the dry season and reduced or eliminated in the wet season It can be said that in terms of moisture, there is a critical region that is defined as the threshold moisture content, where in lower moisture, th...

Evaluation and Calibration of a Soil Moisture Sensor for Measuring Poultry Manure or Litter Moisture Content

Moisture content (MC) of poultry manure or litter affects its ammonia (NH 3 ) emissions. Relating MC to ammonia emission of manure or litter is thus of importance to modeling and/or managing ammonia emissions from the manure sources. Development of such relationships would require the knowledge of ammonia emission and the concomitant MC of the manure or litter. This work was carried out to char...
